HIGHLIGHTS

  • Grown, harvested and pressed within the same belt — our coconuts come from a single stretch of the Western Ghats near Mangalore, not a mixed supply chain pooled from different states. Same soil, same climate, same farmers, batch after batch.
  • Cold-pressed, nothing else — no heat, no refining, no bleaching, no deodorising. The oil is extracted mechanically at low temperature, which is the only reason it still smells and tastes like actual coconut instead of a neutral cooking oil.
  • Nothing added, nothing hidden — no preservatives, no synthetic antioxidants, no blending with cheaper refined oils (a common shortcut in this category). What's on the label is what's in the bottle.
  • Independently lab-tested, not just self-declared — our latest batch came back from FARE Labs at 0.16% free fatty acid (FSSAI allows up to 3.0%) and 0.10 meq/kg peroxide value (FSSAI allows up to 10) — both a fraction of the permitted limit. Heavy metals (arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, copper) all came back below detectable levels. Full report available on request.
  • One bottle, many uses — daily tempering and sautéing, deep frying without the oil breaking down as fast, oil pulling, and the traditional South Indian hair and skin oiling routine most of us grew up with.
  • Naturally solid in winter, liquid in summer — that's not a defect, it's just how real, unrefined coconut oil behaves. If your bottle never changes state with the weather, it's probably not pure.

DESCRIPTION

There's a difference between coconut oil that's labelled pure and coconut oil that actually is — and most people can only tell once they've cooked with the real thing.

Vanorah's coconut oil comes from a single stretch of coastal land near Mangalore, in the Western Ghats — the kind of region where coconut farming isn't a business decision, it's what families have done for generations. We don't mix coconuts from different states or seasons to hit a volume target. What goes into the press is what came off that land.

The extraction itself is old-fashioned on purpose. Cold-pressing means the coconut is crushed mechanically, without added heat, so the oil keeps its natural aroma, its slightly sweet undertone, and the nutrients that get stripped out when oil is refined, bleached and deodorised for a longer shelf life. There's no chemical solvent involved and nothing added afterward — no preservatives, no anti-caking or anti-oxidant additives, no dilution with refined oil to cut cost. It's just pressed coconut, filtered, and bottled.

Because "cold-pressed" and "pure" get thrown around loosely in this category, we don't just say it — we test for it. Our most recent batch was independently verified by FARE Labs: free fatty acid at 0.16% (FSSAI's ceiling is 3.0%), peroxide value at 0.10 meq/kg (against a ceiling of 10), and zero detectable heavy metals — no arsenic, lead, mercury or cadmium picked up at all. Microbiological counts came back under 10 cfu/g, well within safe limits. This isn't marketing language; it's what came back on a signed, ISO-certified lab report, and we're happy to share the full copy with anyone who asks before they buy.

Use it the way your family already does — in the kadai for everyday cooking, for deep-frying where it holds up well at higher heat, in your hair oil routine, for oil pulling, or as a light moisturiser. One bottle, several jobs, the way coconut oil has always worked in a South Indian kitchen — just without anything extra added along the way.

A quick note on appearance: pure coconut oil solidifies below around 24°C and turns liquid again in warmer weather. If yours does the same, that's a good sign, not a flaw.

FAQs

Common questions about our sourcing, testing and quality — answered honestly.

Yes, it falls under that category, but how it's made is a bit different from how most people think. A lot of "virgin" coconut oil out there is actually made by first squeezing out coconut milk and then separating the oil from that milk, which is a wet process with an extra step. Ours skips that. We press the oil straight out of the coconut kernel, so there's nothing in between. Same pure result, just a more direct route to get there.

Yes — it's edible-grade and works well for everyday cooking, tempering and frying. Many customers use one bottle for both kitchen and hair/skin use, which is the traditional way it's used in coastal Karnataka and Kerala households.

Coconut oil naturally solidifies below roughly 24°C and turns clear/liquid above that. This is a property of pure, unrefined coconut oil — not spoilage. Just let the bottle sit at room temperature or in warm water if you want it liquid.

Yes. Our current batch was tested by FARE Labs (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 / 27001 certified) — free fatty acid 0.16% (FSSAI limit: 3.0%), peroxide value 0.10 meq/kg (limit: 10), no detectable heavy metals, and microbiological counts well under safe limits. Reach out to us or check the product page for a copy of the full signed report.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; no refrigeration needed. Check the batch label for the specific best-before date.
